Police in the state of Pennsylvania are investigating an incident of bed bugs being released in a Walmart store. Staff at the store found bed bugs inside a pill bottle inside a coat for sales at the Walmart store. Investigators believe the blood-sucking parasites were left at the shop in Edinboro deliberately in order to spread the nasty pest. A spokesperson for Walmart have said there is no evidence of an infestation at the store and no suspects have been found for the crime, however, the investigation is still underway.
Police and investigators have not yet established a motive for the crime. A health and safety company were employed to confirm the species of insect and they confirmed they were bed bugs. A spokeswoman for the store told the BBC "Our third-party pest management service has visited the store, and after conducting a thorough review found no evidence of an infestation," spokeswoman Tara Aston said. "We believe this to be an isolated incident and are taking all the necessary steps to help ensure a safe environment for customers and associates."
