As the weather begins to get warmer, more opportunities arise to spend your time outdoors. From barbecues to picnics, you don’t want to be bothered by ants. The Black Garden Ant is the most common species in the UK. They tend to nest outdoors however if the infestation is established, they could work their way indoors.
They are brown/black in colour with nipped in waists and around 3-5mm in length. You will begin to see them between March and September and will swarm in large groups. There are thousands of workers that all work together to collect food, keep the nest clean and look after the young ants. Black Garden Ant nests can be huge and are found under paving stones, in soil and between brickwork. The Ant will eat anything from leftovers, fruits, seeds and small insects. The Queen Ant is around 9mm, dark brown/red in colour with antennae and can live up to 29 years!
