What are Carpet Beetles?
Carpet Beetles are insects that have a rounded body and tend to be 2-4mm in length. They normally have irregular markings which can be brown, white and black which make them distinctive. The larvae are often referred to as ‘woolly bears’ principally because of the tufts of hair on their bodies. The carpet beetle larvae feed on any natural fibres that they find, such as carpets, clothes, curtains and other furnishings; therefore, these are the areas to be checking if it is believed that they have been brought into the home. The adults are often not an issue as they normally live outside but the larvae can cause extensive damage to furnishings and natural material in almost any form.
How do I know if I have Carpet Beetles?
The most obvious sign of a carpet beetle infestation is damage to carpets. The beetles tend to prefer the darker areas of a room and some common places include carpets next to skirting boards and under beds, sofas and other heavy furniture. The main way to distinguish between a carpet beetle and other textile pests such as moths is to note the extent of damage in a single area. The larvae of a carpet beetle will feed primarily in one area and so the damage can sometimes seem worse than that caused by a moth infestation. This is because in the cases of moths, the damage is usually scattered around a room and consequently it can be less obvious.
What’s the best and most effective form of Carpet Beetle Treatment?
The most effective type of carpet beetle treatment and the fastest way of eradicating these pests is to use the appropriate carpet beetle killer products with sufficient knowledge on how to treat them, all of which is provided by ourselves.
Using a combination of products is advisable for any size infestation as each product has its own advantage when treating the different stages of the carpet beetle life cycle. As a result, using a Carpet Beetle Treatment Kit is always the best way to tackle the infestation, especially as it provides rapid knockdown of all stages of the life cycle. Each kit has been tailored to ensure complete eradication by selecting the most effective products and providing a step-by-step advice sheet to facilitate the treatment process.
The best way to achieve complete eradication of any pest is to use multiple active ingredients in different forms. This is another factor that makes the kits so successful at treating carpet beetles as it allows the products to reach the ‘crossover effect’ which is a known method in the pest control industry. Our kits are available in three different sizes and so are designed to treat various degrees of an infestation, this ensures that the knockdown effect is reached quickly regardless of the extent of the infestation and of how far it has travelled in a property.
